New Delhi: Rohan Jaitley, who is currently the president of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) is in line to succeed Jay Shah as the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), providing the latter becomes the International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman, according to reports. Shah’s name has been doing the round for a few days after current ICC chairman Greg Barclay decided to not contest for a third term.

However, it is still not clear whether will be the next ICC chair since he is yet to file his nomination. Based on a report in Dainik Bhaskar, there is a consensus over Rohan, who is also the son of the Late Arun Jaitley. The other BCCI office bearers will continue in their capacities.

Shah is one of the ICC boardroom’s most influential faces and a member of the world cricketing body’s Finance and Commercial Affairs (F&CA) sub-committee. If Shah becomes ICC chairman, then he will become the youngest head of the global body at 35 and also the fifth Indian to serve ICC at the highest level after the Late Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N Srinivasan and Shashank Manohar.

The deadline to file a nomination for ICC chairman’s post is August 27. Shah reportedly enjoys the support of 15 out of 16 members in the ICC board. According to ICC rules, the chairman’s election at the ICC consists of 16 votes and a majority of nine votes is required for the winner.

“ICC Chair Greg Barclay confirmed to the Board that he will not stand for a third term and will step down from the post when his current tenure finishes at the end of November. Barclay was appointed as the Independent ICC Chair in November 2020, before being re-elected in 2022,” the ICC had said.
