NEW YORK (PIX11) – Health officials will spray for mosquitos in New York City this week in an effort to reduce the risk of West Nile virus.

Crews are set to spray parts of upper Manhattan on Monday and southwest Brooklyn on Wednesday. Here's where:

Manhattan:

  • Carnegie Hill
  • Central Park
  • East Harlem
  • Fort George
  • Hamilton Heights
  • Harlem
  • Inwood
  • Lenox Hill
  • Lincoln Square
  • Manhattan Village
  • Manhattanville
  • Morningside Heights
  • Sherman Creek
  • Sugar Hill
  • Upper East Side
  • Upper West Side
  • Washington Heights
  • Yorkville

Brooklyn:

  • Bath Beach
  • Bay Ridge
  • Bensonhurst
  • Coney Island
  • Dyker Heights
  • Fort Hamilton
  • Gravesend
  • New Utrecht
  • Sea Gate

Residents are asked to stay indoors during the spraying, which will last from 8:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day. Air conditioners can stay on during the spraying, health officials said.

If you are exposed to pesticides, you are encouraged to wash your skin and clothes with soap and water.

At least four New Yorkers tested positive for the virus this year. The city has dispatched crews 10 other times around the city this summer to prevent the mosquito-borne virus.

Residents are asked to eliminate any standing water around their homes to help control the mosquito population.
