[WATCH] Inside Track: Is President Marcos really nonchalant about Cha-Cha?

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s cousin, Ilocos Norte Second District Representative Angelo Marcos Barba, filed Resolution of Both Houses (RBH) 8 on Monday, August 5.

The resolution seeks to extend the terms of members of the House of Representatives. It also seeks to allow House lawmakers to be reelected once, giving them a total of 10 years in office, compared to the current nine years for every congressman reelected twice.

But House constitutional amendments committee chairperson Rufus Rodriguez immediately shot down the resolution. He said his panel won’t consider proposals that are political in nature.

The President has been hot and cold on changing the Constitution. When he first came into office, he said charter change was not his priority. But a year later, he changed his mind and the House passed RBH 7, which proposed economic amendments to the constitution.

The President has three relatives in the House: his son Sandro Marcos, who is the senior deputy majority leader and Ilocos Norte 1st district representative; his cousin, House Speaker Martin Romualdez; and Barba.
