Patriots Injuries: Update On Key Lineman After Preseason Finale
Sunday was a brutal night for the Patriots offensive line, to say the least.
New England struggled to protect its quarterbacks from wire to wire in its preseason finale against Washington at Commanders Field. Between a string of penalties, a slew of botched snaps and weak protection, the offensive line's collective play inspired nothing but concern heading into the regular season.
The unit also experienced an injury Sunday, as Sidy Sow hurt his ankle and was sidelined for the entire second half. The severity of the injury remains to be seen, but Sow was spotted leaving the Patriots locker room with a walking boot, per The Boston Globe's Christopher Price.
Losing Sow for any amount of time obviously would be a blow to New England. The 2023 fourth-round pick started 13 games as a rookie last season and was poised to have a very important role as a sophomore. The Patriots' depth on the interior leaves a lot to be desired, but Sow's injury potentially could result in an enhanced role for promising rookie Layden Robinson.
Sow was one of two projected Patriots staters who sustained an injury Sunday night. Jacoby Brissett dinged up his shoulder, but the veteran quarterback's ailment does not appear to be serious.
