Humphrey knocks parents who ease child abusers

Too many adults have been failing to follow through with child abuse investigations, says Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs Kirk Humphrey, as he revealed several parents have been dropping cases despite police efforts.

“If it is a case of sexual abuse, the police will do their investigations and [decide] if there is a charge to be brought. The director of the Child Care Board told me today there were six responses from the police where the guardians or parents are saying, ‘We do not wish to pursue this case’.

“That has to stop. It is a waste of the police’s time in the first instance, but also, what is going to happen to that child?” Humphrey asked.

He was speaking to the media at Silver Hill, Christ Church on Saturday, after visiting the homes of residents who were impacted by a shooting last Thursday night in which a 12-year-old girl received gunshot wounds to the hand and foot. (TG)
