Former Cricketer Basit Ali Urges Shaheen Afridi to Focus on First-Class Cricket
Basit Ali, a former cricketer for Pakistan, believes Shaheen Afridi need to be rested following another lackluster performance in the first Test match against Bangladesh, which they lost by 10 wickets.
Shaheen conceded 88 runs while taking two wickets in the first innings of the first Test match against Bangladesh.
Shaheen’s two wickets came at the end, after he had failed to make an impact with the new ball. Mehidy Hasan Miraz was removed to start his innings, and Hasan Mahmud was sent back for an eighteen-ball duck.
His declining form dates back to the World T20 Cup in the beginning of the year. The 24-year-old finished the season with five wickets at an average of 21.00 from four games, but he was unable to produce the goods.
“Shaheen Afridi should be rested 100 per cent. He should go and play first-class cricket. He should be rested. Ali S put in a lot of effort. Pakistan failed in bowling, fielding and batting. They beat us in all departments. It is wrong to say that the team had a bad day,” Basit said on his YouTube channel.
Bangladesh commemorated a significant turning point in their history, while Pakistan attempted to identify the several reasons why things had gone wrong for them.
After 14 matches between the two teams, Bangladesh emerged victorious, with Pakistan suffering 12 losses and only one draw.
In Test cricket, Bangladesh has only yet to lose to South Africa and India.
A damp outfield delayed the start of the match, but by the fifth day, the whole thing had turned into an exciting, suspenseful thriller.
Bangladesh’s 10-wicket victory gave them a commanding lead in the ICC World Test Championship rankings. They jumped ahead of South Africa and Pakistan to equal for sixth place on point percentage with Sri Lanka. Pakistan dropped to ninth position with a 30.56 point percentage as a result of the defeat.
Pakistan will play Bangladesh in the second Test at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on August 30 in an attempt to tie the series after losing 1-0.
