Duke Recruiting: A Look At Hudson Greer
This guy is pretty impressive
Duke target Hudson Greer, who lives in Travis County, Texas, is emerging as a serious talent and is moving up the recruiting rankings. Currently seen as a four-star, don’t be surprised if he bumps up to a five-star. Standard caveat: ratings are pretty meaningless. You could do a better system with terms like this:
- Not bad.
- Pretty good.
- Okay, he can play
- He’s really good.
- Daaaamn can he play
As Matt Painter said recently, outside of a few players each year, almost everyone is a crap shoot. You don’t necessarily know until guys get to school.
That said, talent will out and more importantly, attitude and desire will take players a long way.
As you can see in the videos below, Greer has talent. He can get off the floor, he can run, and he can shoot. He also works hard on the boards and defense. There’s more to the game than that, but that’s a really good start.
What we like about him are what people say about his intangibles. He’s said he wants to earn his minutes rather than be promised a starting role and he sounds like a guy who might eventually justify Mike Krzyzewski’s favorite 12-letter term of endearment.
It’s a bit early to know where he’s heading but he looks like the sort of guy Duke fans would enjoy. The easy but lazy comparison is to Grayson Allen, but Greer is bigger and more likely to play forward than was Allen (we think he could play guard as well).
Incidentally, he’s left Lake Travis High School for Monteverde Prep, which in the recent past has sent Dariq Whitehead, Sean Stewart and Cooper Flagg to Duke.
