TWO WAY FIGHT FOR KZ2 TITLE

The prestigious SP Tools Australia Kart Championship KZ2 title is within reach for both Joshua Fife and Sam Dicker, with just four points separating the two as they head into the final round in Melbourne next weekend.

Dicker, the 2023 SP Tools-backed Champion, is eyeing back-to-back titles. However, Fife is determined to make history by securing his third crown in the elite KZ2 gearbox class, presented by GoPro.

“It will mean a lot. To go back-to-back is pretty much all I want, and I’ll be doing everything possible to finish on top,” said Dicker.

If Fife clinches the 2024 Championship, he will become the first driver to have won the esteemed title three times, marking a significant milestone for the sport.

“I’ve won it twice and if I win it this time, I’ll be the first person in history to win it three times, so that’s pretty cool,” said Fife.

The championship battle has been fierce all year, with both drivers at the top of their game in KZ2, showcasing why they’re the heroes of karting.

“In Coffs Harbour, a young Cadet driver gave me a card with me on it, I keep it in my wallet, hoping that it will be my good luck charm for this weekend,” said Dicker.

As they approach the final round at Oakleigh Go Kart Racing Club, both Dicker and Fife will need to bring their A-game if they’re to once again etch their names on the John Pizarro Perpetual Trophy awarded to the KZ2 Champion.

“I’ve only raced there once, and it was on a different circuit layout, but coming down that hill feels quite cool.  It has that ‘Bathurst effect’ like when you’re coming down the Dipper,” said Fife.

“The pressure is going to be on from the start of the weekend.  One slip, and my chance at the Championship could be gone, so it’s going to be intense from the outset.”

Nearly 400 competitors will take to the Oakleigh circuit across eight classes, catering for a variety of ages and performance levels.  Practice begins on Thursday afternoon ahead of qualifying Friday, heat races Saturday and the all-important finals on Sunday.
