ACADIA PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- While mourning the tragic loss of Det. Javonta Flugence and his family, the Rayne Police Department says the detective played a pivotal role in the community and was a one-of-a-kind soul who can never be replaced.

The lives of 27-year-old Javonta Flugence, his fiancée, 26-year-old Amber Davy, and their 2-year-old daughter, Caroline, were claimed in a single-vehicle crash around 5 p.m. Friday while traveling south on Highway 13 in Crowley.

Lt. Ricky Gray, of the Rayne Police Department, said the loss of such a young family is unimaginable.

"I couldn't imagine losing a child and grandchild in the same day, it's just a tragedy," Gray said.

Flugence began working as a detective for the Rayne Police Department in 2019. Since day one, Gray said Flugence marked an entire career of unwavering commitment to protecting the citizens of Rayne from crime and drugs.

"He was one of the top performers. He was pivotal in our right against drug dealing and drug activity in the city. He continuously produced the most arrests in that sector," Gray said.

He describes Javonta as one-of-a-kind, saying no person will ever be able to take his place.

"I don't think we'll ever be able to replace Javonta. He was such a unique person, just his sense of humor, you don't find it unless you knew him," Gray said.
