CNN's Kaitlan Collins, Bill Maher joke about who will interview Harris first

CNN host Kaitlan Collins and comedian Bill Maher, who came together Friday night to discuss the state of the 2024 race post-Democratic convention, joked about who would get to interview Vice President Harris first.

Maher suggested that Harris was worse than former President Trump when it came to the press, as the Democratic nominee has yet to sit for an interview.

“You think about the fact that Kamala doesn’t talk to the press. In a way, I feel like it’s more insulting … than what [former President] Trump does, and Trump says, ‘You’re the enemy of the people,’ which is pretty bad,” he said Friday on "Real Time with Bill Maher."

“But she’s kind of saying is, ‘I don’t need you, I’m not talking to you, you don’t matter, you’re not relevant anymore,'" Maher added. “To me, that’s even worse than ‘I hate you.'"

Collins seemed to disagree, however denouncing Trump's feud with the media.

“I don’t know if it’s worse than denigrating the press on a daily basis, which is what Trump did,” she said, adding that the former president often tried to argue with reporters, which she said he tried to "deny or lie about."

“I don’t know if I would compare the two,” Collins continued. “I do think she should talk to the press. I think anyone who wants to have access to the nuclear codes should be willing to sit down and take questions.”

Harris has not sat for an interview or held a formal press conference since President Biden exited the race and she rose to the top of the ticket. Trump and other Republicans have consistently criticized Harris for not speaking with reporters because voters have questions about her policy stances.

“We’d love to have her on the show!” Collins said.

Maher agreed, saying he’d love to have Harris on his show, too.

“I’m not gonna hold my breath,” he said.

Collins replied, “We’ll see who gets her first."

While in Michigan last week, Harris told reporters that she planned to sit down for an extended interview before the end of August. No interview has been announced or scheduled.
