Pittsfield structure fire under investigation
PITTSFIELD, Mass. (NEWS10)-- Pittsfield Fire Department is investigating a Third Street structure fire that broke out around midnight on Saturday. Officials said no residents or firefighters were injured, and the cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
Pittsfield Police discovered the fire while patrolling the neighborhood and evacuated the tenants of 11 and 13 Third St. The tenants could find alternative places to stay and could return in the morning after the city Health Department cleared the scene.
Fire officials said they knocked down the central portion of the blaze in an hour. When they arrived on the scene, they located the fire on the left exterior side of a two-and-a-half-story side-by-side duplex, expanding into the attic.
Salvage covers saved some of the resident's belongings from water damage. Officials said the damage was contained to only 11 Third St., and the Pittsfield Fire Department's Investigation Unit said early findings point to unknown causes.
