Isolated rain this morning before the heat kicks in this weekend

0

What We’re Tracking

  • Isolated rain early Saturday
  • Heating up this weekend
  • Triple digits into next week

A HEAT ADVISORY is in effect for all of Northeast Kansas for Saturday and Sunday. Expect heat indices to be upwards of 110°.

We're seeing a few isolated showers and even thunderstorms this morning. They will be hit or miss over the next couple of hours with some spots managing to stay dry. The rain should move out fairly quickly--drying out by lunch time. Depending on how much rain we see will determine how hot we can get later on. Once we clear out this afternoon, temperatures are expected to reach the middle 90s with heat index in the lower 100s.

Besides the rain this morning, the rest of weekend looks to remain dry as the heat really kicks in. Highs Sunday could top out in the lower 100s for many. A quiet weather pattern falls into place as a ridge of high pressure settles over the Midwest, allowing the heat to stick around into early next week. Humidity will also make a come back this weekend as dew points tomorrow reach into the upper 60s.

During our stretch of hotter weather, winds looks to pick up from the south and southwest at 15-20 mph. With more moisture in the air, heat index values could feel anywhere from 105°-110° Sunday and Monday.

We'll see a gradually cooling trend throughout next week, seeing more middle 90s by Wednesday as our rain chances increase. Our best chance for scattered showers looks to be late Thursday and that will help us cool down into the lower 80s by Friday!
