Live jazz to launch new season of shows

There’s one jazz bar in town that music lovers head to for a weekly dose of swing, blues and of course, jazz and soon it will re-open following a short summer break. On September 6 and 7, Sarah’s Jazz & Blues Club will host two events to launch a new season of music in old Nicosia.

To kick things off, the venue has invited the Steppin’ Out Jazz Band to perform live on the Friday, reminiscing on the decades of the 1920s to 1950s. The band will perform songs from the Classic Jazz American Songbook, joined by saxophonist Charis Ioannou who will be the special guest of the evening. On stage will be Alice Ayvazian on vocals, Dimitris Miaris on piano, Costas Challoumas on double bass and Marios Spyrou on drums.

The live music will continue on Saturday as the Workin’ Trio take the stage. Charis Ioannou on saxophone, Christos Yerolatsitis on organ and Marios Spyrou on drums will bring back their lively set to the Nicosia bar bringing swing grooves from the 40s, 50s and 60s. Their music also includes elements of Gospel, New Orleans, and Boogaloo rhythms as well as original tunes.
