Fury as woke university urges students to stop using the terms mum and dad

A UNIVERSITY wants students to swerve the terms mum and dad in everyday chats.

Guardian or carer are preferred “to avoid assumptions about biological parents”.

The woke advice is in Leeds University’s online inclusive language guide.

Its 39,000 students are warned that repeated violations could fall foul of a policy on dignity and mutual respect.

One undergraduate hit back: “It’s something that nobody reads, or if they do, they don’t take it seriously.

“There’s a lot of mums who would be more offended if you tried to make their job gender-neutral, because they care about being a mother.”

Scholars are asked not to describe over-65s as senior, aged and elderly — as such terms could cause discomfort or offence.

The guide adds: “Use more neutral language such as ‘older people’.”

Tory MP Mark Francois said many people see “senior citizens” as respectful language, adding: “It seems wokery may be trumping civility on campus.”

The university said the guide aims to foster a more equal and fairer society.

A University of Leeds spokesman said: “Our inclusive language guide uses materials published by government and charities to foster a more equal and fairer society.”

This comes after researchers at Newcastle University have been told not to use the Geordie greeting “pet” — after woke bosses called it sexist.

It is deemed off-limits in an “equality and inclusion toolkit”.
