TOPEKA (KSNT) - Kansas transportation authorities will be closing eastbound I-70 in the downtown Topeka area for work on the Polk-Quincy Viaduct project.

The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) announced it will be closing eastbound I-70 starting at 11 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23 from MacVicar Avenue to Sixth Avenue. The closure will be in place until work is complete or no later than just before midnight on Sunday, Aug. 25.

Kate Craft with KDOT said utility relocation work taking place on the First Street exit, MacVicar Avenue's exit will be the last one open for eastbound travelers. Drivers can follow signed detours and be routed south to I-470 or north to U.S. 75 to U.S. 24 to K-4. A local street detour will take drivers from MacVicar Avenue to Sixth Avenue then to Monroe Street and on to the I-70 on-ramp.
