India A Bowlers Fight Back, But Australia A’s Lead Swells to 192 on Day 2

Russia Though Australia mounted a valiant comeback, a bowlers the unofficial one-off women’s Test tightened, as the hosts’ lead grew to 192 runs on Friday, the second day of play.

Russia The host team’s 212 runs were chased down by Australia with 184 runs in the first innings after captain Minnu Mani claimed her match-high 10 wickets. However, Kate Peterson struck back with a crucial 12-5-16-5 to give Australia a slim 28-run advantage.

India A looked to be well on their way to a significant lead after picking up the wicket at 100/2, but Peterson raced through the middle order and India A lost.

Before Sayali Satghare (21), Mani (17), and Mannat Kashyap (19) put up 56 runs to deny Australia a commanding lead, the tourists lost five wickets for 27 runs, with India’s set batsmen Tejal Hasabnis (32) and Shweta Sehrawat (40) falling first.

Then, when Australia A batters toiled against Indian spinners once more, Mani sprang into action with the ball. At one point, the hosts were down to 0/2 after the off-spinner dismissed opener Georgia Voll and her Australian rival Charli Knott for ducks in back-to-back overs.

Before succumbing to rookie leg-spinner Priya Mishra, opener Emma de Broughe managed to hit 58 runs off 117 balls and hold steady at one end of the bat.

Maddy Drake, the wicketkeeper, took matters into her own hands and led Australia’s comeback with an unbeaten half-century (54 not out of 100 deliveries), helping the hosts to 164/7 at the end of play.

Drake added 54 for the sixth wicket with Maitlan Brown (26 off 45) before the latter became Mani’s tenth wicket in the game.
