Southern State Parkway shuts down due to crash on Long Island
WEST BABYLON, N.Y. (PIX11) – Parts of the Southern State Parkway were shut down Friday morning due to a crash.
The crash happened at Exit 38, which is for Belmont Lake State Park in West Babylon. All three lanes on the westbound side were closed, but reopened as of 8 a.m.
There was a five-car collision on the roadway, according to the Suffolk County Police Department. At least six people were injured.
Fuel was seen spilled all over the roadway in video taken by AIR11.
Traffic was pushed to Deer Park Avenue. Commuters were encouraged to take Sunrise Highway, which runs alongside the Southern State Parkway.
