Report: Everton have a major injury crisis ahead of Tottenham clash
Tottenham Hotspur will be taking on a severely depleted Everton side on Saturday, with The Independent revealing that the Toffees could have just 14 fit players for the clash.
Tottenham are searching for their first win
Spurs will be keen to pick up their first three points of the season as they prepare to play in front of their home fans for the first time in 2024-25.
There was plenty of frustration in the Tottenham camp after they failed to beat Leicester City in their opening game of the season and Ange Postecoglou will want to see a response from his players when they take to the field against Sean Dyche’s men.
They will be talking on an Everton side that has been decimated by injuries and suspensions ahead of their trip to London.
The Merseyside club were already without a few key players for their clash against Brighton and have subsequently lost another couple of players, with Ashely Young picking up a red card and James Tarkowski being the latest injury victim.
Everton may have just 14 senior players
Dyche told The Independent ahead of Saturday’s clash: “We’re stretched, unfortunately. We’re down to about 14 recognised first-team players at the minute, so that’s not perfect, but the challenge is right in front of us as always.
“We’ve lost a few bodies in pre-season, which has been unfortunate, they’re searching for true fitness and we’ve got to get them fit and we’ve lost more who might not be available for this weekend.
“Jarrad Branthwaite is still a bit away. He is not close at the moment. A few of the lads like Seamus Coleman and James Garner are getting a bit closer and have just come back into training with the group.
“James Tarkowski has got a ‘maybe’ situation, so we will have to look at that going into the next game. We obviously know the right-back situation with Ashley Young now suspended as well.”
Spurs Web Opinion
On paper, Tottenham could not ask for an easier opponent than an Everton side short of confidence and decimated by injuries.
However, we know that Sean Dyche’s sides are always well-organised and difficult to break down, and it thus might not be a walk in the park for the Lilywhites.
