LASUTH RECEIVES STOMA BAGS FROM NIGERIAN SOCIETY FOR COLORECTAL DISORDER
The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) has received from
the Nigerian Society for Colorectal Disorders (NSCRD), Stoma Bags for Indigent Patients in LASUTH
Prof. Adetokunbo OFabamwo, the Chief Medical Director of LASUTH, expressed gratitude for the donation. emphasised the importance of providing for the less fortunate as a moral obligation, regardless of religious affiliation.
The CMD further assured the association that the stoma bags would be allocated to those who could not afford them, adding that the proposal of the society regarding the opportunity for collaboration and training initiatives between LASUTH and the association.
He spoke glowingly about the advancements of LASUTH, which have positioned the hospital as a formidable leader in healthcare provision and an inspiration for the future of medical institutions.
The CMD commended the association for its thoughtful gesture towards indigent patients and extended well wishes toward the growth of their four-year-old association, recognising the significance of their specialised work to reduce the burden of colorectal disorders.
Furthermore, Fabanwo charged members of society to use a more holistic approach in tackling colorectal disorders by focusing more on preventive measures as well as early detection methods.
Dr. Ngozi Eke, the Assistant General Secretary of NSCRD noted that LASUTH’s pivotal role in catering to a diverse cohort of patients among which a substantial population are indigent individuals.
Eke said, “The society’s focus revolves around improving the standard of care in the management of lower gastrointestinal conditions in Nigeria. The donation of stoma bags symbolises the society’s joint efforts to support the hospital in its care for underprivileged patients”.
The Social Secretary of the society, Dr. Saheed Akanni, while acknowledging the Chief Medical Director of the Hospital, Prof. Adetokunbo O. Fabamwo, for his transformational leadership role and notable achievements over the years, he said the idea for the donation originated during a conference held in Jerusalem four years ago, where treatment gaps for patients were identified.
Recognising LASUTH’s reputation for providing top-quality care, Dr. Akanni, expressed the society’s desire to align with the institution in bringing specialised expertise, such as laparoscopic and robotic surgery, to elevate medical standards. “The collaboration would be aimed at bridging international knowledge gaps and enhancing medical practices on a global scale”, he said.
The Nigerian Society for Colorectal Disorders (NSCRD), multidisciplinary association comprise General Surgeons and Pediatric Surgeons as well as Gastroenterologists, Radiologists, Radiation Oncologists, and Pathologists who are domiciled within and beyond the shores of Nigeria,

Adekoya, the Director of Hospital Administration and Human Resources; Mr. Babatunde Jelili Oyekan, the Deputy Director of the Finance & Accounts Department; Mr. Kayode Oyedele, as well Dr. Lawal, Head of Medical Social Services and Dr. Ikechukwu Ulasi member of the Nigerian Society of Colorectal Disorders.
