Thief breaks into Topeka pizza restaurant, steals arcade quarter machine

TOPEKA (KSNT) - A north Topeka business suffered a break-in Thursday morning after a thief shattered a door and stole a coin machine from its arcade.

KSNT 27 News spoke with Shaunna Ashley, manager of Doughboyz at 1312 North Kansas Avenue, about the incident. She said the owner of the business, Trevor Burdett, received an alert around 6 a.m. on Aug. 22 of someone breaking in to their pizza restaurant.

The thief broke into the business through a glass door before heading over to its arcade and loading up a quarter machine on a dolly. The encounter was captured on cameras at Doughboyz with the footage being turned over to the Topeka Police Department to examine.

Aside from losing the coin machine, the only other loss was the shattered glass door. Ashley said the break-in has left her feeling uneasy.

"At a loss, because we're not sure how or why, they knew what they were coming for," Ashley said.

Burdett said the machine had just been refilled prior to the break-in and contained around $200 in quarters. Factoring in the broken door, Burdett said the encounter will cost the business around $500 to $1,000.

"In and out in two minutes," Burdett said. "He brought a dolly with him and went straight for the game room."

Ashley said the business is looking to get some additional equipment to help monitor things while staff are away.

"Just doing what we can," Ashley said. "Just gotta keep going and keep business going."
