According to a report in Diario Expreso (as relayed by Liverpool Echo), Tottenham Hotspur and other interested clubs have been informed that it would take an offer of £50m to prise Piero Hincapie away from Bayer Leverkusen before the transfer deadline.

Tottenham may still want another centre-back

Ange Postecoglou is now well stocked at centre-backs, with Radu Dragusin providing cover for his first-choice pairing, Cristian Romero and Mickey van de Ven, while Ben Davies also showed last season that he is capable of filling in at the heart of the defence.

However, it has been suggested that the Lilywhites are looking for additional reinforcements in the area, with El Comercio claiming last week that the club have set their sights on Hincapie.

The report explains that Spurs were battling Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid for the 22-year-old, who can operate as a left-back or as a centre-back.

Leverkusen name price for Hincapie

Diario Expreso have now also reported on Hincapie’s future, naming Tottenham, Liverpool, Man Utd and Bayern Munich as the four sides who are vying for the defender.

However, the outlet makes it clear that the Bundesliga champions will not allow the Ecuador international to leave on the cheap.

In fact, it is asserted that Xabi Alonso’s men have made it clear to these clubs that they would have to part ways with £50m to land Hincapie before the end of the month.

Spurs Web Opinion

While Ange might want further strength in depth at the back, there is no way Tottenham are going to spend £50m on a backup central defender, with a box-to-box midfielder likely to be the club’s priority at this stage.

I’m not even sure Spurs could afford to spend £50m on a midfielder this summer, to be honest.
