Trump doubles down on 'Black jobs' in new Truth Social rant

0

Former President Donald Trump once again accused Democrats of trying to destroy "Black jobs" in a new post to Truth Social on Thursday.

"The millions of Illegal Aliens pouring into our Country because of Comrade Harris, our 'Border Czar,' and her Open Border Policies, are taking the jobs of our Black and Hispanic workers and families," said Trump. "BIG NUMBERS AND DISPLACEMENT. NOT FAIR! VOTE FOR TRUMP AND STOP THE MADNESS!!! THE UNIONS ARE NEXT!!!"

As several pundits and experts have repeatedly noted, Vice President Kamala Harris was not in fact the "border czar," and her role in immigration was to address geopolitical unrest in Central America responsible for driving migration to the United States.

Moreover, border crossings have fallen to a four-year low this month, due in part to the Biden administration's increase of border enforcement and creation of new pathways to apply for asylum outside the United States.

Trump's previous references to "Black jobs" have triggered outrage from many commentators, with some suggesting the way Trump has framed the issue suggests he thinks Black people are primarily fit for menial and low-income agricultural tasks of the sort disproportionately taken by migrant workers. Even Ben Carson, one of the only high-ranking Black officials to have served in Trump's own cabinet, seemed to express discomfort with the language Trump used.

Democrats have seized on the issue to go after Trump, with former First Lady Michelle Obama proclaiming in her speech at this year's Democratic National Convention in Chicago that in challenging Harris in the 2024 election, Trump "might be seeking one of those Black jobs."

This comes on top of other rhetoric from Trump that has triggered racial offense, including his Q&A session with the National Association of Black Journalists where he questioned Harris' biracial identity.
