Why was a bleeding passenger forcibly removed from an American Airlines flight?

When a man's head injury started to bleed, American Airlines removed him from the aircraft due to health concerns. An overnight delay resulted from his refusal to leave. Due to their acts, the couple is currently being charged in court.
