Report: Spurs may miss out on centre-back target wanted by Postecoglou
Borussia Monchengladbach centre-back Ko Itakura, who was previously rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar, could be on his way to the Eredivisie instead, according to De Telegraaf.
Tottenham were linked with Ko Itakura
Itakura first made his name in the J-League at the time when Ange Postecoglou was still managing in the Japanese top-flight and the centre-back has been successful in the Bundesliga since his switch to Gladbach in 2022.
A number of reports over the last 12 months have suggested that Postecoglou wants to bring the Japanese international to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
This includes Sky Sports Germany, who suggested during the January window that the Lilywhites and Liverpool were both exploring moves for Itakura.
Ko Itakura could join PSV Eindhoven
Nothing materialised back then and it appears the 27-year-old has now emerged as a target for PSV Eindhoven in the dying stages of the transfer window.
De Telegraaf claim that the Eredivisie club are keen to strengthen their backline and have now identified Itakura as a potential option.
However, it is pointed out that Gladbach would only let the versatile defender leave if his €15m (£13m) release clause is met, which could make it a complicated deal for PSV to pull off.
Spurs Web Opinion
If Ange wants to sign another backup centre-back, Itakura would be a decent option.
The Japanese star has the pace and technical quality to play in the Australian system and will come quite cheap.
