Ohio sex offender who spent 2 months on the run receives multiple bonds in court

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – A man arrested by the U.S. Marshal’s Service received four separate bond amounts, totaling nearly $500,000, in Franklin County Municipal Court Thursday morning.

According to court documents, 38-year-old Quinntel Bagley, a registered sex offender, was issued bonds totaling $475,000 for charges stemming from escaping police custody and allegedly kidnapping of his ex-girlfriend.

The bonds break down as follows:

  • Kidnapping, aggravated burglary – $200,000
  • Aggravated robbery – $150,000
  • Felony fleeing, eluding – $100,000
  • Failure to verify address – $25,000

Bagley was apprehended by the Marshals’ task force Friday at an address on Cornell Drive in Lima. This was over 90 miles from where he was last seen near Eureka Avenue and West Broad Street in the Hilltop neighborhood two weeks ago.

The search for Bagley began when he escaped police custody on June 13, after being arrested and accused of kidnapping his ex-girlfriend in Grove City. Officers had taken him to Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster, where he sprinted away from them in the parking lot.

After nearly two months on the run, Bagley returned to the same ex-girlfriend’s home around 6 a.m. on Aug. 2, kidnapping her again and driving her to the west side of Columbus. She was able to get away from Bagley without injury.

Grove City police said Bagley had access to a car in the latest kidnapping but didn’t specify whose it was. After escaping police custody in June, he stole a car from a nearby home and drove onto US-33. Authorities looking for him later found the car abandoned on the highway, and residents at an apartment complex spotted him running into the woods behind the property.

The two Grove City police officers who were transporting Bagley when he escaped were suspended Aug. 5. Both received five-day suspensions for "performance failures" while escorting Bagley.

A registered Tier II sex offender, Bagley had served 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to kidnapping and felonious assault in 2012. Three counts of rape, two counts of felonious assault and one count of kidnapping were dropped as part of the plea agreement. He had about three of five years remaining of post-release control when he was arrested Thursday.
