DNC Day 4: Kamala Harris to accept party's nomination for president

(NEXSTAR) – Kamala Harris is set to accept her party’s nomination for president at the Democratic National Convention on Thursday night, capping a four-day event that included ringing endorsements from President Biden and former Presidents Obama and Clinton — and even a few figures from her Republican opponent’s former administration.

The theme of the fourth and final night — “For Our Future” — will showcase how Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, plan to “lead America into a brighter, more hopeful era,” according to organizers.

Watz, accepting the nomination for vice president on Wednesday night, sought to turn Republican arguments on their head while making an appeal for common sense rooted in his Midwestern values. He spoke of his upbringing in Nebraska, as well as teaching and coaching football in Minnesota.

“I haven’t given a lot of speeches like this, but I’ve given a lot of pep talks,” he said.

The third day’s speakers also included prominent Democrats including former President Clinton, Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg and Democratic Minority Leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries. But also speaking in support of the Harris-Walz ticket was Olivia Troye, a former Homeland Security official who worked as an advisor to Vice President Mike Pence during the Trump administration.

“Being inside Trump’s White House was terrifying,” she said. “But what keeps me up at night is what will happen if he gets back there. The guardrails are gone. The few adults in the room, the first time, resigned, or were fired.”

Day 4’s scheduled speakers had yet to be formally announced as of Thursday morning, though several Democratic politicians are expected to make remarks, including Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, the Detroit Free Press reported. Pop star Pink is also slated to perform, according to the Associated Press.
