DPIIT withdraws 2016 order to extend scope of a copyright rule to internet transmissions

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has withdrawn a 2016 office memorandum that expanded copyright law to cover internet transmissions. This move follows a High Court of Bombay ruling in Tips Industries Ltd vs Wynk Music Ltd, aiming to clarify the scope of Section 31D for streaming platforms and rights holders.
