Movie night under the stars in Nicosia village
Rural Cyprus locations have been brimming with life this summer season as event organisers, cultural institutions and youth councils organise fun happenings on city outskirts. Bringing art, music, food and cinema to more places beyond the heart of the city has been popular, and before August ends one more occasion is taking place.
Peristerona Youth is organising the 2nd Summer Cinema night. Two evenings of outdoor film screenings from the international cinema world are coming up soon. On August 29 and 30, Peristerona Youth invites cinephiles to the old OXEN Stadium (next to the municipal kindergarten) to watch multiple film screenings. Two films will be presented across the two evenings, three of which are suitable for all while the last is for audiences above 15 years old.
On August 29, the animation film Zootopia will be screened first at 8pm, a children’s film about animals in the city trying to bring justice and put an end to a sinister plot. At 10pm, the Italian comedy L’Ora Legale will be screened. Set in a Sicilian city just before the town’s mayoral elections, an uptight professor wants to end all illegal activities and in the process he shuts down a bar owned by his relatives.
On night two, Disney’s popular and award-winning animation film Coco will commence the evening bringing stories of family ties, breaking generational curses and honouring Mexican culture. The final film will be the Spanish thriller-drama Contratiempo (The Invisible Guest) – a murder mystery with plenty of unexpected twists and surprises.
