Phony bank employee bilks Saratoga resident for $49k
Aug. 13
Theft by credit card: Someone used the victim’s credit card information to make a fraudulent purchase totaling approximately $1,794.
Embezzlement: A business owner reported a former employee used a company credit card to make unauthorized purchases online for a total loss of approximately $1,493. The victim lives and conducts business in Saratoga.
Aug. 14
Petty theft: At 2:01 p.m., the suspect entered O’Reilly Auto Parts on Prospect Road and stole merchandise valued at approximately $88.
Aug. 15
Theft by false pretenses: A Saratoga resident said someone telephoned them acting as a bank representative, claimed there was fraudulent activity associated with the victim’s bank account and instructed the victim to wire money to an unknown account. The bank was unable to stop the transfer, and the victim lost approximately $49,000.
Vehicle theft: At 2:51 a.m., someone stole a vehicle parked in the 18000 block of Vanderbilt Drive. The vehicle was recovered later the same day in Oakland.
Grand theft: At 11:41 a.m., two suspects stole tools from a workstation in the front yard of a residence in the 12000 block of Cumberland Drive while the victim was doing construction work inside the home for a loss of approximately $1,250.
Aug. 16
Theft of firearm: Someone stole a firearm from the victim’s residence in the 12000 block of Saraglen Drive. The victim just discovered the theft and had multiple service workers in the home during the prior year, helping the victim with estate sales. The firearm had an approximate value of $400.
Aug. 18
DUI: At 8:35 a.m., deputies responded to a suspicious vehicle call in the 14000 block of Teerlink Way on report of a car blocking the roadway. An investigation revealed the motorist was driving under the influence of drugs. The suspect was arrested and booked into main jail.
Organized retail theft: At 7:40 p.m., two suspects entered CVS in the Argonaut Center on Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road and stole merchandise of an unknown value.
