It is set to feature two of the UK’s biggest comedic talents, Alan Carr and Daisy May Cooper.

They will be a resident team captain, tasked with helping their contestants to guess a mystery password by offering one-word clues.

Each team member will get a chance to try and get the correct answer, but they will have to work together to get on the same wavelength as the person who set the password.

The lucky team who cracks the code stands to win a huge cash prize.

Show host Stephen Mangan shared his excitement about the upcoming show, saying: “Password is a fantastic game show, so it’s an absolute pleasure to be the host.

“Although how I’m going to keep Daisy and Alan in line, I don’t know!”

Alan Carr, who is known for his sharp wit and quick comebacks, didn’t hold back when discussing the competition.

“I can’t wait to wipe the floor with Daisy; she’ll be heading back to the West Country with her tail between her legs. If only her brain was as big as her mouth,” he quipped.

Daisy May Cooper, the award-winning actor and writer from This Country, was equally ready to throw down the gauntlet.

She retorted: “I’m looking forward to knocking the glasses off Alan with my exceptional talent for this game.

“I know that…given both our training (Me – drama school, Alan – Tesco) that between us (meaning mostly me) we will be able to win people lots of cash (just to reiterate when I say ‘we’ I mean ‘me’).”

Katie Rawcliffe, Head of Entertainment Commissioning at ITV, added: “Password is a brilliantly fun format greatly complemented by a fabulous on-screen trio in Alan, Daisy and Stephen.

“2023 has been a great year for game shows on ITV, and there are plenty more to come in 2024.”

Password will start airing on ITV1 on Saturday, August 31.

Alan Carr's career to date

Alan Carr is a household name, but how did the comedian get his start?

  • Alan began pursuing a career in stand-up comedy in the early 2000s, moving up to Manchester from Northampton and regularly performing at the city’s Comedy Store. He was even named City Life’s Newcomer Of The Year in 2001.
  • He then became a regular fixture on the small screen following stints on Jimmy Carr‘s beloved panel show 8 Out of 10 Cats and the documentary series The Law of the Playground between 2005 to 2006.
  • Alan went on to find further fame as the co-host of Channel 4’s The Friday Night Project, which ran from 2006-2009 alongside shamed comic Justin Lee Collins, before going solo and fronting Alan Carr’s Celebrity Ding Dong in 2008.
  • Since then, Alan has fronted coverage of some of the UK’s biggest events, such as Crufts in 2018 and the Royal Variety Show in 2021, as well as appearing on an episode of The Great Celebrity Bake Off and becoming a regular judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race.
  • Alan now fronts a number of beloved series, including The Italian Job – a renovation show he hosts with Amanda Holden – and Interior Design Masters – a reality competition show that pits amateur designers against each other.
  • In 2023, Alan wrote and starred in the autobiographical drama Changing Ends which depicts his young life growing up in Northampton in the 1980s. The series was an instant hit and returned to ITV for a second series in 2024.
