The road trip from hell comes to a merciful end

After one of the more painful weeks and change in recent Mariners history, this cursed road trip is finally coming to a close.

It will be Logan Gilbert’s turn to try to stop the bleeding tonight, while the Dodgers will counter with trade deadline acquisition Jack Flaherty. Flaherty has been a strikeout machine in three starts since coming from Detroit, but he’s had a bout of homeritis his last two outings, giving up a combined four dingers. Swing hard in case you hit it, Mariners.

Today’s first pitch is at 7:10pm, and I have to tell you after a steady diet of 6:40 starts the last few years, it’s still a bit jarring. Aaron Goldsmith and Mike Blowers will be calling the game on ROOT Sports NW, while Rick Rizzs and Dave Sims have the broadcast on 710 AM Seattle Sports.

1979 - Tom Paciorek had the hot bat in the Mariners 8-4 triumph over the Toronto Blue Jays, in the Kingdome. Paciorek tallied six RBIs, three with a home run, and another three with a bases-loaded triple.

1993 - While in Toronto the Mariners played their 11^th straight errorless game, tying the team record.

1996 - Alex Rodriguez homered twice and became just the fifth shortstop to hit 30 HR in a season.

1998 - Joey Cora collected his 1,000^th career hit with a bases loaded, RBI single in a 5-4 win vs. Chicago.

2010 - Casey Kotchman set the Major League record with 274 consecutive games in which he didn’t commit an error. His error came in the bottom of the 8^th inning at Yankee Stadium when Curtis Granderson sharply hit a ball that he couldn’t handle. During the streak, Kotchman safely fielded 2,379 chances.

2012 - Félix Hernández earned the win allowing 1 run over 7.2 innings in his first start following his perfect game. 39,204 fans turned Safeco Field into the “Supreme Court” with a sea of yellow t-shirts. Eric Thames hit a solo home run to break up a no-hitter with 2 outs in the 5th inning, and Jesús Montero hit a 438-foot three-run home run to break the game open in the bottom of the 7th inning.

2015 - Félix Hernández lost back-to-back decisions for the first time since 2013 and the Mariners allowed 7 runs over the final 2 innings in an 11-4 loss to the White Sox…Nelson Cruz extended his on-base streak to 31 games, the 4th-longest in MLB this season.

2018 – The Mariners turned a club-record 6 double plays in a 3-2 loss against the Astros at Safeco Field. Justice for Ross Detwiler!

2023 – Julio Rodríguez won the AL Player of the Week award.
