Travis Kelce to cameo in 'Happy Gilmore 2' sequel with Adam Sandler

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Travis Kelce is known for his skills on the football field. But after a big announcement Tuesday night, it is evident that his strategic plays extend far beyond the turf.

According to Billboard, Adam Sandler confirmed on the Tonight Show that Kelce will be making an appearance in the highly anticipated comedic sequel, "Happy Gilmore 2."

He told Jimmy Fallon, “Travis has… he mentioned it, so we have a nice something for Travis,” Sandler said. “He’s gonna come by. He’s a very nice guy. You guys would love him in real life. What a big, handsome guy. Funny and cool as hell. He’s a stud and he’s so funny.”

Kelce has made it very clear that he is a connoisseur of the comedic arts. But it was only recently that he expressed an interest in joining the world of Hollywood.

Back in May, it was announced that the tight-end would be starring in the upcoming Ryan Murphy horror series, "Grotesquerie." And just this week, fans were able to get a small glimpse of Kelce's acting debut in the newly released teaser trailer for the show.

This project doesn't even include his other big-screen ventures, like the upcoming reboot of "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?" that he is expected to host, his upcoming role in the Lionsgate action-comedy, "Loose Cannons," announced Tuesday and last year's successful night of hosting "Saturday Night Live."

Kelce has tapped into the world of entertainment several other times, but it appears that this upcoming role in the sequel to the 1996 classic might be his biggest moment yet -- excluding, of course, his three Superbowl wins in front of millions of people.

Before Sandler's announcement on the famous talk show, Kelce had actually made comments about wanting a potential role in the sequel when word spread about it in May.

Kelce told his brother Jason in their popular podcast, 'New Heights,' that he was a “huge fan of the Sandman.” He continued saying, "I didn’t even know there was a job opening on Happy Gilmore 2. I’ll be a f---king extra… anything to get around Happy Gilmore, an Adam Sandler film or set — count me in."

Sandler said the cast is expected to start filming in a "couple of weeks" in New Jersey. Whether Kelce will be flying out before the first official game on Sept. 5 or in the middle of the NFL season is unknown. Regardless though, Kelce fans, Chiefs fans and long-time fans of "Happy Gilmore" can expect to see a few nostalgic hours with an iconic comedian and a cameo from a local legend.
