Big game, carcass movement regulations up for discussion at upcoming KDWP meeting

INDEPENDENCE (KSNT) - Kansas wildlife commissioners are due to gather in Independence for their next meeting on the latest outdoor topics in the state.

Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) commissioners will hold their next public meeting at noon on Thursday, Aug. 29 at the Independence Gun Club Heritage Center. Only one action item is listed for the meeting on fire extinguisher requirements for Class A and Class 1, 2 and 3 vessels.

Commissioners will then have a general discussion on several topics related to invasive species, hunting regulations and more. There are also several items listed as workshop items to be discussed by commissioners which may be voted on in the future. These include the following:

  • General discussion
    • Five-year review of the threatened, endangered and species in need of conservation lists.
    • Kansas Aquatic Species Recovery Program - returning the alligator snapping turtle to its old range in Kansas.
    • Big game permanent regulations.
    • Independence land and water conservation fund project.
  • Workshop items
    • Spring turkey regulations.
    • Kansas River invasive carp summary and proposed snagging opportunity.
    • Sportfish vs. non-sportfish regulations.
    • Carcass movement regulations.
