My daughter hates me because I named her after a piece of furniture – people say it’s ‘awful’ & ‘stupid’ but we love it
A MUM has revealed that her daughter hates her, after finding out that she is named after a piece of furniture.
The mum said that she didn’t think much about the name, and just pointed to a random item in her bedroom when discussing it with her child’s father.
A mum has upset her daughter by revealing the meaning behind her name[/caption]Taking to Reddit, the woman confessed: “I think I messed up.
“I feel like I made bad choices because I just told my daughter how we came up with her name, and now she hates me.”
The mum revealed that she had found out that she was pregnant with her daughter when she was just 22.
She said that after she and her partner found out the gender of the baby, they lay in bed, trying to come up with names.
“I looked over at a lamp and jokingly said, ‘What about shade?'”, she said.
“And for some reason, he loved it.
“It kind of stuck, so I named her that, except I spelt it ‘Shaide’.”
The woman’s daughter is now 25, and has finally learned the meaning behind her name.
“She now knows the story behind her name, as we never thought to really tell her”, the mum said.
“Did I make a mistake with this?”
The post was flooded with responses from Reddit users, many of whom were not fans of the mum’s choice of name.
One person said: “It’s a stupid name.”
Another person said: ” I think it’s a bit awful and it would’ve been much better if you just picked a normal name.”
