Asian Development Bank commits USD 500 mn loan for improving healthcare in Maharashtra

The Government signed a USD 500 million loan package with the Asian Development Bank to enhance tertiary health care and medical education in Maharashtra. The project includes establishing four medical colleges with climate and disaster-resilient features in under-served districts, increasing bed capacity in government hospitals, and hiring 500 new doctors. ADB aims to improve the quality of healthcare, reduce out-of-pocket expenses, and create policy actions for recruiting and retaining quality medical staff.
