Stakes Potential for Debut Winner by Supido

0

Astute trainer David Payne knows what to do with a good horse when he gets one and has high hopes for  Supido filly Shohisha, who made a winning debut at Warwick Farm on Wednesday in a very competitive three year-old maiden over 1300m.

Ridden by Chad Schofield, Shohisha had won her only two previous trials, but was easy in the market in the face of strong support for several other runners including the Godolphin owned Trapeze Artist filly Pinito, who started favourite.

Shohisha was ridden quietly for luck back in the field near the fence and was able to sneak through between runners to snatch a half head win in a thrilling blanket finish.

“She’s very good and the further they go the better,” said David Payne, who indicated the Group I ATC Flight Stakes at 1600m was on his radar.

Chad Scofield was full of praise for Shohishaw, ho is yet to taste defeat in two trials and now a race.

“She was impressive and I know Mr Payne has a very good opinion of her,” said Scofield.

“She’s still very raw and has a lot to learn, but she won very well.

“I rode her for luck and when the gap came I needed her to be brave and she was strong through the line.”

Shohisha was retained to race by her breeder Geoff Evers and is the first winner for Group III ATC Epona Stakes winner Consommateur (NZ), who comes from the family of Group I winners Magic of Sydney and Daney Boy.

Consommateur had another filly last spring by Supido, who stands at Widden Stud at a fee of $16,500.
