'Greatest moment of the DNC': Over-the-top roll call wows onlookers as Harris nominated
Tuesday's Democratic National Convention roll call to appoint Kamala Harris the party's presidential nominee might have been ceremonial, but it was also a spectacle.
Though the official roll call took place weeks before to avoid a legal battle over state ballot laws, the Democratic Party made the ceremonial a party, DJing individualized music for each state's delegation and treating the crowd to surprise cameos from a variety of stars and celebrities.
Onlookers were mesmerized by the performance, calling it one of the most energetic political convention showcases they had ever seen — including even some Republicans.
"THAT’S how you roll call!" posted award-winning podcaster Allison "Mueller, She Wrote" Gill in response to the surprise, show-stealing appearance by rap star Lil Jon for the Georgia delegation.
"I'm gonna just go ahead and call this moment with DJ Cassidy calling the roll call the greatest moment of the DNC," wrote attorney and SHERO writer Amee Vanderpool.
"Georgia brought Lil Jon out for what is essentially the most lit roll call ever," wrote the account @PattyLupone. "Fun fact: Lil Jon was once a contestant on The Apprentice. Suck it, Donald."
"Why is it smart to do the roll call this way for Dems?" wrote ex-Republican and former Lincoln Project strategist Matt Walton. "1. It's a lot of fun 2. There is so much content for social media to help Harris. 3. The short clips are great to get campaign message across. 4. This will be talked about a lot and people will rewatch."

"This roll call is unapologetic earnestness and unironic cringe without one ounce of shame. It's perfect," wrote Run For Something founder Amanda Litman.
"Did not have the soundtrack of college as the soundtrack of the delegate roll call vote on my bingo card today…but love it," wrote former White House press secretary and MSNBC contributor Jen Psaki.
"Folks… we’ve figured out how to do a roll call. Forever. This is what we do all the time now!!" wrote legal analyst Elie Mystal.
"I’m sorry but this #DNC2024 roll call with DJ Cassidy, themed state music and party/club atmosphere is blowing the RNC’s roll call out of the water," wrote GOP commentator Meghan McCain. "It looks like a giant party and celebration and everyone in that room looks like they’re having a blast."
