SAN RAFAEL

Suspect arrested
for alleged flashing

A convicted sex offender was arrested on suspicion of exposing his genitals in downtown San Rafael, police said.

A witness reported the incident at about 7:15 p.m. Saturday outside a business along Fourth Street near Lincoln Avenue, police Sgt. Justin Graham said. The man left before officers arrived, but police found him the following evening at Court Street Plaza.

Herbert Stephen Blue, 66, of San Rafael was booked into the Marin County Jail on suspicion of indecent exposure with prior convictions. He is a registered sex offender with indecent exposure convictions in Marin in 2001 and 2009, according to the California Department of Justice.

The Marin County District Attorney’s Office filed a case on Monday, and the arraignment was scheduled for Tuesday. Blue remains in custody in lieu of $30,000 bail.

Public Defender David Sutton declined to comment.

SAN ANSELMO

Fire cause remains
under investigation

The cause of a three-alarm fire in San Anselmo over the weekend was still under investigation Tuesday, a Ross Valley Fire Department official said.

The fire was reported at about 5:15 a.m. Saturday at 60 Red Hill Ave., a vacant, two-story commercial building. The flames spread into the vegetation behind the building and traveled toward homes on Island Drive and Forbes Avenue, the fire department reported.

Authorities ordered residents to evacuate in the area, but crews were able to contain the fire to the building and about a quarter-acre of vegetation. No injuries were reported.

WEATHER

Possibility of rain
in Marin’s forecast

Marin County could be in line for a bit of rain this week, the National Weather Service said Tuesday.

“A cold front in August will bring a chance for showers to the region, primarily the North Bay, on Thursday
and Friday,” the agency said. “While rainfall totals are not expected to exceed a tenth of an inch, this would be an unusually large amount of rainfall for this time of year.”

In the eastern part of Marin, the agency’s forecast includes a 30% chance of showers on Friday and possible showers on Saturday. High temperatures are expected to reach the mid-70s.

Point Reyes Station and other coastal spots have a 40% chance of showers on Friday and possible showers on Saturday. High temperatures are expected to reach the low 60s.

Sunny and warmer weather is in the forecast for Sunday.
