Efficacy of Tirzepatide for Weight Loss in China
Globally, the prevalence of overweight and obesity continues to increase, with the World Health Organization estimating that more than half of the world’s population will be living with overweight or obesity by 2035. Most of this increased prevalence is now occurring in low- and middle-income countries. In China, urbanization, economic development, and the nutrition transition (a shift from traditional diets to Western-style diets concurrent with economic growth) have contributed to a sharp rise in overweight or obesity in the last 3 to 4 decades, with the country now home to the second-largest number of adults living with obesity worldwide in 2022, just behind the US. Other Asian countries, including those with historically low rates of overweight or obesity, such as Japan, South Korea, and most parts of South and Southeast Asia, are now experiencing a significant increase in overweight or obesity.
