Jamie Carragher makes Spurs top-four claim after Leicester draw

0

Despite Tottenham’s failure to beat Leicester City in their Premier League season opener, Jamie Carragher still expects the Lilywhites to secure a top-four finish this season.

Tottenham drop two points at the King Power

There were plenty of encouraging signs from Tottenham’s first-half display at the King Power Stadium, with the away side being utterly dominant.

In fact, the Foxes failed to even lay a glove on Spurs for the first 45 minutes and would have been over the moon to get into the break just 1-0 down.

However, Tottenham looked shaky defensively in the second half, with Steve Cooper’s men proving a threat on the counter-attack.

The home side got their equaliser through Jamie Vardy just before the hour mark and managed to hold on for a point, leaving Ange Postecoglou’s men extremely frustrated.

The Tottenham head coach admitted in his post-match press conference that his side need to be more ruthless and cannot afford to drop points in games where they are so dominant (Football.London).

Will Tottenham finish in the top four?

However, Carragher believes that despite Spurs’ disappointing start to the campaign, they remain favourites to pip Chelsea to fourth place.

When asked who will get the final guaranteed Champions League spot, the pundit told Sky Sports Main Event (19/8/24 – 22:48): “If you put it on paper, they [Chelsea] have to.

“They have got 40-odd players, but would they have the togetherness and the connection with the manager that Postecolou has, I’m not sure. I think Spurs will get in there [finish fourth ahead of Chelsea].”

Spurs Web Opinion

There were a lot of encouraging signs with Tottenham’s performance on Saturday and we should be mindful of overreacting after one result.

However, the concerning part is that there is little to suggest that we have rectified the issues that haunted us last season.

Given how advanced Porro and Udogie play, we are always at the risk of being caught out on the counter-attack, no matter how dominant we are.
