Liverpool’s scouting network has turned its attention to Max Johnston, a 20-year-old right-back making waves at Sturm Graz. Formerly of Motherwell, Johnston’s rise in Austria has not gone unnoticed, particularly by Liverpool legend Andy Robertson, who has reportedly endorsed the young defender to his former club.

Johnston’s journey has been a fascinating one. Born in Middlesbrough, he worked his way through the ranks at Motherwell, with loan spells at Cove Rangers and Queen of the South, before making a bold move to Austria in 2023. His performances in the Austrian Bundesliga have attracted Premier League scouts, with Liverpool leading the chase.

The Scottish youth international, who has represented his country at under-16, under-19, and under-21 levels, is seen as a future full national team player. Liverpool are reportedly prepared to offer £6 million for Johnston, who has three years left on his current contract. However, the Reds face competition from Southampton, who are also keen on securing the promising right-back.
