Tottenham were dominant against Leicester

Spurs’ first game of the season at the King Power Stadium followed a similar pattern to many of their matches last campaign.

Ange Postecoglou’s side were extremely dominant for large parts of the game but could not translate that to goals, eventually being pegged back by an equaliser and having to settle for a point.

In the second half, the Lilywhites lacked control, seeming susceptible at the back every time they gave the ball away.

Truth be told, Spurs should have been out of sight in the first period, with Solanke and the other attacking players passing up several big chances to extend their lead.

Dominic Solanke says Spurs need to be more clinical

Speaking after the game, the Tottenham debutant told SpursPlay: “Firstly, we are disappointed not to get the three points. Going into every game, that is what we want to do. We want to achieve big things this season.

“I think we played well at times, just weren’t quite clinical enough but there is a lot to look forward to. It is quite frustrating not to get the three points, having played well and dominated the game for the majority, but it is the first game. We wanted to get the three points but hopefully, we can put it right in the next game.”

Solanke’s and Tottenham’s focus now shifts to the home game against Everton on Saturday, with the striker admitting that he cannot wait to play in front of the Spurs faithful.

When asked about the clash against Toffees, the 26-year-old said: “I’m looking forward to it. An opportunity to go put things right in front of the home fans and looking forward to playing in the stadium for the first time.

“Been here for just over a week now and I’ve been looking forward to this (full debut) moment. It was great to play with the boys and in front of the fans. Disappointed not to get the three points, but we’ll keep improving and try to get the three points next time.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Even though Dominic Solanke failed to find the back of the net, there was a lot to be encouraged about from his performance and it was clear to see why Postecoglou was keen on bringing him through the door, with the Englishman appearing a perfect fit for Tottenham’s system.
