Henry Fieldson who headed north to join Queen’s Park from English Championship side Sunderland recently on a two-year contract got his first taste of senior football at Aberdeen.

The North Shields born central defender was recruited for the B Team squad however he was handed a swift introduction to First Team Football when Callum Davidson included him in his list of substitutes for the recent William Hill Championship fixture against Livingston and he was sent on as a substitute at Pittodrie.

Henry progressed through the Youth Ranks at Sunderland and played regularly for their under-18 side, as well as making Premier League 2 appearances, before being signed as a professional last summer by the Stadium of Light side.

His career will now continue north of the border with Henry saying: “I am pleased to be up here and having the chance to progress my career in Scotland. My International Clearance came through just before the Livingston game, so it was great to be involved at that level even as a substitute.

“To get on and play in such a big cup tie against Aberdeen was terrific as well.”

Queen’s Park’s Academy Director Tommy McIntyre saying: “We had a look at Henry over the summer and he has all the attributes to be a top-class defender. He comes from an area in the North-East of England that is a hot-bed for talented footballers, and he has the potential to be another one from that stock.

“Having the opportunity to be involved in the First Team so quickly is great for him and again shows that the pathway from the B Team to senior football at Queen’s Park is a clear one.”

The club’s Director of Football Darren O’Donnell added: “When we looked at Henry during the summer we were impressed so I was delighted when he said he would come here ahead of other options.

“He has had a great grounding in the game and should be setting himself the target of knocking on the First team door throughout this season.”
