Rensselaer County swears in four new corrections officers
TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Rensselaer County Sheriff's Office welcomed four new correctional officers on Monday. A swearing-in ceremony took place at the Rensselaer County Public Safety Building.
The new recruits have undergone a background check, an interview, and physical and mental health screenings. The sheriff said working in corrections is difficult but rewarding.
"You'll have a tough job to do, but always remember there's a community out there who appreciates you and appreciates you protecting them," Rensselaer County Sheriff Kyle Bourgault said.
Monday's swearing-in comes as the sheriff's office continues to face staff shortages. A full-time recruiter was hired in May to try and bring in more workers.
