He even coerced the long-standing character into revealing her deepest secrets, only to record them.

In scenes yet to air, Leanne returns home early along with Sam (Jude Riordan) and seeks out Rowan.

The cult leader explains that Amy is doing an upload and is reconsidering investing in the resource centre.

In addition, Rowan urges Leanne to lean on Nick to do the same.

At Amy’s upload, Leanne urges her to relive her trauma in order to banish the negativity.

However, Leanne’s shocked to realise Rowan is recording Amy.

Will this be the beginning of Leanne finally breaking free of The Institute’s spell?

Amy reveals she’s going to speak to Ken about releasing her inheritance to invest, but Ken’s not keen.

Later, Leanne insists Amy is ready for her malware session but a blindfolded Amy is horrified as the members bombard her with insults.

Although Leanne assures her it’ll be worth it in the end, the younger woman becomes too distressed and runs out.

Amy informs her mother Tracy (Kate Ford), who is furious and spells out they’re taking their story to the Gazette.

Rowan urges Leanne to persuade Amy to call off her attack, while pointing out that now she’s senior management.

This means her loyalty to the Institute takes precedence over any relationship she has with Amy.

Leanne is left feeling torn over what to do.

It comes as viewers have not held back their thoughts on the controversial storyline.

One wrote: “This Rowan storyline is well past its sell by date. We all know he’s some kind of scammer. Just end it and move on ffs. #Corrie.”

Tracy Barlow's biggest storylines

Tracy Barlow's had her fair share of drama in Coronation Street over the years... here's a look back at some of the soap legend's biggest storylines.

  • Adoption as a child: Tracy’s parents Deirdre (Anne Kirkbride) and Ray (Neville Buswell) didn’t stay together. Having never had much to do with Ray, Tracy was adopted by Deirdre’s new husband Ken Barlow (William Roache) – gaining a large extended family in the process.
  • Relationship with Steve McDonald: A one-night stand with fellow Street veteran Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) resulted in the birth of their daughter Amy. At the time, Steve was separated from his second wife Karen (Suranne Jones) although they later reunited. Tracy and Steve have twice been married to each other: first from 2012 to 2013 and later from 2018 to 2024.
  • Relationship with Rob Donovan: Tracy romanced Carla’s (Alison King) brother Rob (Marc Baylis), who later murdered Tina McIntyre (Michelle Keegan). Upon learning this, Tracy and Carla reported Rob to the police and he was arrested.
  • Murder of Charlie Stubbs: However, Tracy herself has killed before. In 2007, she murdered former lover Charlie Stubbs (Bill Ward) out of revenge for his affairs and deceit. The character was subsequently locked up and was released from prison in 2010.

Another added: “This rowan guy is such a creep. Get off our telly #corrie.”

While a third commented: “When is this institute storyline going to end? I can’t stand Rowan’s face anymore.”

Yet another person shared: “Rowan better be leaving soon…”

Coronation Street airs on ITV1 and is available on ITVX.
