Olympic silver medalist Anita Alvarez to throw out first pitch at Bisons game

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Kenmore native and newly crowned Olympic silver medalist Anita Alvarez will be honored at the Buffalo Bisons game on Friday.

Alvarez, who won her first medal in her third try in Paris earlier this month with the United States artistic swimming team, will throw out the first pitch as part of the team's 'Women in Sports' night.

The silver medal in this Olympics was the first U.S. medal in the sport since 2004.

Canisius women's basketball coach Tiffany Swoffard and UB women's basketball associate head coach Jacey Brooks, among others, will also throw out first pitches.

The Bisons face the Omaha Storm Chasers at 7:05 p.m. Friday.
