Hoosick Falls receives $3 million in PFAS settlement

HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- The Hoosick Falls village expects $3 million after joining a national class action settlement connected to PFAS manufacturers 3M and DuPont. The settlement differs from legal matters and talks regarding Honeywell International and Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics.

3M is expected to pay out $10.5 billion, and DuPont will pay out $1 billion. Mayor Rob Allen said the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the EPA found both manufacturers responsible for PFOA contamination.

Allen added that Hoosick Falls is ahead of the curve thanks to a permanent filtration system and a new water source that will soon arrive, which was mostly paid for by 3M and DuPont. "The money from this settlement will go a long way to making up the time, energy, and resources lost or diverted to our drinking water situation," Allen said.

The $3 million will be paid out over three years. The new groundwater supply, which is under construction, is expected to be operational in early 2025.
