Delhi Medical Association seeks to be made party in SC's suo motu RG Kar case

The Delhi Medical Association sought to join a Supreme Court case on the rape and murder of a postgraduate doctor in Kolkata. They requested a committee led by a former Supreme Court judge to create protection measures for medical staff. The association suggested various representatives be included. Nationwide protests and a doctors' strike ensued after the medic's body was found with severe injuries. The Calcutta High Court subsequently transferred the investigation to the CBI. A civic volunteer had been arrested shortly after the incident.
