MTA starts ticketing drivers blocking bus lanes in NYC

NEW YORK (PIX11) – The MTA will start issuing tickets on Monday to drivers who are blocking and double parking at bus stops.

The agency installed new cameras on hundreds of buses along 14 bus routes across New York City.

The devices will capture the license plate, location and time stamp when a violation is spotted.

Violators will receive a summons of $50. Repeat violators could get fined up to $250.

These are the bus routes equipped with the new cameras, according to the MTA:

  • B46 SBS
  • Bx12 SBS
  • Bx19
  • B62
  • Bx41 SBS
  • Bx36
  • M14 SBS
  • M15 SBS
  • M23 SBS
  • M34 SBS
  • Q44 SBS
  • Q54
  • Q58

The enforcement could reduce collisions by 20%, officials said.

The MTA plans to expand the program to 32 bus routes by the end of the year.
