Water leak to blame for dirty sea in Limassol

Damage to a central well caused irrigation water to leak onto beaches in Limassol, it was announced on Monday.

According to the Limassol district self-governance organisation (Eoa), the incident that sparked an outpouring of pictures on social media on Sunday, was due to a leak of irrigation water.

“On the occasion of yesterday’s publications and photos about the discharge of water into the sea of Limassol, which caused concern to residents, the Limassol district self-governance organisation informs that the specific incident concerned the leakage of irrigation water,” the announcement said.

Limassol’s Eoa assured the public that in cooperation with the competent authorities, all necessary measures are being taken and the flow of water to the sea has been stopped.
